The Canon 300mm f/2.8 L USM IS is an L-series, high performance, prime fixed focal length lens with USM ultrasonic autofocus and IS image stabilization. An integrated tripod mount is included which can be rotated out of the way or removed if not needed. Four focus stop buttons are arranged around the end of the lens to temporarily disable autofocus and lock the focus point. The button arrangement around the lens means at least one of the buttons is within easy reach, no matter the camera orientation. A focus preset feature allows you to set the lens to remember a focus distance you choose. By turning the lens "playback ring" and pressing the camera shutter button, the lens will swiftly return to the set focus distance. This is a useful feature for sports photography.
The 300mm f/2.8 lens can be used hand-held, but it is heavy and you will need to rest your arms often. If you're planning to use the lens for long shoots, a high quality monopod or tripod is recommended.
The lens is compatible with both the Canon 1.4x II and 2.0x II extenders.
