The Nikon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D AF IF is a medium-length, autofocus, telephoto zoom lens with macro capability. The 28-105mm focal length is well suited to mid-range subjects such as portraits, candids and general purpose photography. This lens also has a macro focus feature to allow it to focus as closely as 22cm (8.8 inches) from the subject. The mechanical autofocus of this lens requires a camera body with a matching autofocus motor which some entry-level Nikon cameras do not have. The lens can be focused manually on cameras that do not have an autofocus motor.
The autofocus system of this lens is not compatible with Nikon D40, D40x and D60 cameras. The lens can be focused manually with these cameras.
